I’m first and foremost, a saxophonist. It’s technically the only instrument I’ve been classically trained on. I’ve been playing saxophone since 2005; mostly alto sax but with a little soprano, tenor, and bari thrown in the mix for good measure.
It’s hard for me to say exactly when (probably sometime around 2007), but sometime in middle school I started dabbling in piano using a venerable Yamaha DX-7 that I still have to this day. I started teaching myself basic chords and began learning more in depth music theory, building on what I had learned playing saxophone in school. Throughout high school, I continued playing sax in my local church orchestra and a few local praise and worship groups. I continued practicing keyboard and eventually began playing keys in a few local groups as well.
During high school, I became very interested in recording and computer audio (MIDI, VSTs, etc.) as well as composing my own music. I started using notation software to write my own scores using my first real VST library, Garritan Personal Orchestra 4, to create the audio files which I’d then share with my friends and family. After high school I went to my local university and graduated with a degree in Information Technology. Ever since then, I’ve been committed to merging my interests in music and information technology together.
